MANN, HOWARD J.

Howard J. Mann of Brush, a retired sheriff, died Tuesday [August 13, 1996] in Fort Morgan. He was 78.

Services were yesterday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brush. Interment was in Brush Memorial Cemetery.

He was born March 3, 1918, northeast of Akron. He graduated from Fort Morgan High School in 1939. He served in Carlson’s Raiders in the Marine Corps from 1941 to 1945. He married Idessa Windstead on Jan. 7, 1962.

He was employed in many positions, including as a probation officer for the 13th Judicial District Probation Office and as sheriff of Morgan County. He retired in 1987.

He was a member of several organizations, including the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Elks, Colorado Law Enforcement Officers Association and Northeast Colorado Peace Officers Association. In May, he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award from the Lions Club International Foundation for humanitarian service. He was also a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife.
