Allen ‘Dick’ A. Luckemeyer, 79, Sauk Rapids, MN, died Sunday, October 21, 2001 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 25, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Friends may call Wednesday, October 24, 2001 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Dick Luckemeyer was born July 7, 1922 in Minneapolis, MN, to Anton and Eleanor (Hempel) Luckemeyer. Dick was a graduate of St. Cloud Technical High School and attended the University of Minnesota where he lettered in football. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. Dick married Audrey Engel on September 4,1945 in Chicago, Illinois. He worked as an educator, primarily as a teacher, football coach and track coach in the St. Cloud School District and was an avid sports fan. Dick was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, life member of St. Cloud VFW Post #428, St. Cloud American Legion Post #76, United States Marine Raider Association, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 9 and life member of Marine Corps League. Dick is survived by his wife, Audrey, of Sauk Rapids, MN; sons, Chuck (Joanne) Luckemeyer of Reno, Nevada, and Thomas (Mary Beth) Luckemeyer of Nisswa, MN; daughters, Sue (Miles) Wimer of Eagan, MN, and Sheila (Gregory) Brophy of Indianapolis, Indiana; sisters, Carol Smith of Minneapolis, MN, and Beverly Whitney of Minnetonka, MN; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Dick was a loving husband and father and a friend to all who knew him. Memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church or to the United States Marine Raider Assoc., 2651 Major Ave. N., Minneapolis, MN 55422-3650.
