LUCAS, MARCEL R.
Taftville – Mr. Marcel “Lucky” Lucas, of 53 Providence St., passed away Sunday morning [May 6, 2007] at Haven Health Center of Jewett City.
He was born in Taftville on June 29, 1924 the son of Philippe and Opalma (St. George) Lucas.
Mr. Lucas was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps participating in several skirmishes in the Pacific Theater at Bougainville, Guadalcanal, Guam, Okinawa and the occupation of Japan.
On Nov. 27, 1947 in Sacred Heart Church Taftville he was united in marriage to the former Wanda Dudek who survives him.
Mr. Lucas had been employed as a draftsman for 33 years at Electric Boat Co. in Groton, retiring in 1984.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church Taftville, a member of the Ponemah Council No. 34 Knights of Columbus of Taftville, the V.F.W. Post No. 594 of Norwich, the U.S. Marine Raider Ass’n. and the 6th Marine Division Ass’n.
Besides his wife Mr. Lucas is survived by two sons, Lawrence Lucas, of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Kenneth Lucas, of Jewett City; a daughter, Margaret Shafique, of Williamsport, Pa.; a step-brother, Gaston Beausevour, of Quebec, Canada; two step-sisters, Therese Desrochers, of Ville Danjou, Canada and Germaine LaBrosse, of Montreal, Canada; seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
The funeral will assemble at Godere Funeral Home, 21 North 2nd Ave., Taftville on Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church Taftville at 11. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
