LEHMAN, CLIFFORD A.
Berlin, Sept. 2—(Special.)—Private Clifford Allan Lehman, 19-year-old Marine who was graduated from Berlin High School last year, has been killed in action [August 7, 1942], according to a telegram from the War Department received Wednesday. The message was sent to his grandfather, Lucias S. Dean, with whom he had last made his home.
There was no indication as to the fighting area in which Private Lehman was killed, the terse message stating only that he had died in action. The last word from him was a letter in June, sent from somewhere in the Pacific region through the San Diego Post Office.
Private Lehman joined the Marine Corps last January, seven months after his graduation from the local high school, where he was active in athletics. He leaves besides his grandfather who now lives on New Britain Avenue, Newington, his father, Harry W. Lehman of Wethersfield, and one sister, Mrs. Naomi Zigmont of Cromwell.
