LAQUINTANO, JAMES J.

James Laquintano, 51, awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism on Okinawa during the Second World War, died Sunday [July 14, 1968] in Nazareth Hospital. He lived at 7158 Edmund St.

Mr. Laquintano, an auto mechanic and former Marine Corps sergeant, also held the Purple Heart with gold star. He received the Navy Cross for exposing himself to artillery while placing his men and weapons in position to repel a counterattack. Twice wounded, he had to be ordered to leave the front lines.

Surviving are his wife, Jennie; a son, Robert; a daughter, Mrs. Caroline Bengermino, his father, Donato; seven sisters, five brothers and two grandchildren.
