LAMORA, RAYMOND O.
Raymond Oliver LaMora, 72, of 138 Main Street, Tupper Lake, died Sunday morning, October 22, 1995, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born January 14, 1923, in Burke, New York, he was the son of Wilfred Dominic and Esther Amanda (Woolley) LaMora. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Saranac Lake where Mr. LaMora attended school until the seventh grade, at which time, the family moved to Tupper Lake.
Mr. LaMora attended Tupper Lake High School until his enlistment in the Marines in June of 1942. He served in the Pacific from September 1, 1942 to November 21, 1944 with the 6th Marine Division in the Raider Battalion. Earning the rank of Sergeant, he was honorably discharged on October 26, 1945.
On November 11, 1946, he and the former Catherine B. Mandigo of Conifer, NY, were married at Holy Name Church in Tupper Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Finnegan officiating. Mr. LaMora worked for the Town of Altamont Highway Department for 20 years, retiring in December of 1985.
He was a past member of the VFW Edmund Bujold Post 3120, and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Tupper Lake Lodge 640. He was active in the Men’s Twilight League for over 30 years. His retirement was spent in local town projects including the renovation of the grandstands and additions to the Municipal Park and playgrounds. He also worked as custodian for the town offices and Aaron Maddox Hall.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Diana Cribs of Ashboro, NC; one sister, Kathleen Bigrow, Tupper Lake; four grandchildren, Raymond Planty, Tupper Lake; Lorrie Delan, Ashboro, NC; Michael LaFave, Tupper Lake, and Gena LaFave, Ashboro, NC, and seven great-grandchildren.
Calling hours were held Tuesday, October 24 at the Richer Funeral Home. A funeral Mass was held this morning (Wednesday, October 25) at 10 a.m. at Holy Name Church. Burial, with full military honors, followed in the Holy Name Cemetery.
