KOMLENIC, DANIEL T.
Daniel Komlenic, USMC (Ret.), WWII Marine Raider, died suddenly at his home September 14, 1990.
Captain Komlenic was a Veteran of three wars. He served in the 1st and 2nd Marine Raider Battalions in WWII. Participated in action against the enemy on Bougainville, the seizure of Emirau Island, Guam, Okinawa and the Occupation of Japan. Participated in the assault and seizure of Inchon, Korea, capture and securing of Seoul Korea, participated in the Wonsan, Hungnam, Chosin Campaign. Wounded at Chosin 27 Nov. 1950. Held Purple Heart; Presidential Unit Citation with 2 Stars; Good Conduct Medal with 2 bars; American Defense Service Medal; American Campaign Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 Stars; World II Victory Medal; Navy Occupation Service Medal; Korean Service Ribbon with 3 Stars. Captain Komlenic was commissioned in 1952. Captain Komlenic also served during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1965 Captain Komlenic worked for Solar Turbine, Inc. of San Diego for 17 years as a Senior Sales Administrator. He retired from Solar in 1985.
At the time of death he was an Officer and on the Board of Directors of The Gathering Restaurant Corporation of Mission Hills. He was also a partner in V.I.P. Travel Service of Clairemont. These organizations are managed by his sons, Daniel, Jr., of The Gathering and Daryl of V.I.P. Travel Service. Captain Komlenic was a life member of the Marine Raider Association. He was also a member of the Marine Corps Association, VFW Post #3788 of Kearny Mesa, American Legion Post #460 of Kearny Mesa, and the DAV.
He is the beloved husband of Barbara, father of Daniel, Jr., Douglas, Denise and Daryl, and grandfather of Douglas, Jr., Dustin and Daniela. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Frank Komlenic of McKeesport, PA., John Davic of San Diego, Violet Bruder and Mildred Suranovich of Pittsburgh, PA.
Visitation 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 17th Sept. Clairemont Mortuary. Memorial Services will be held at MCRD Chapel at 3 pm., Tues. 18th Sept. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Clairemont Mortuary
