KNIGHT, HOWARD P.
Howard P. Knight, Sr., retired USN HMCS, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife of 63 years and daughter Debra on January 1, 2010, at the age of 85.
He was predeceased by a son, Gary Richard Knight, and survivors include Wayne A. of Winter Springs, FL, Howard P. Jr. and wife Joy of Midwest City, OK; a daughter, Debra L. Zerbe and husband Ken of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by grandchildren, Christopher, David, Howard III, Rhonda, Shelly, Jennifer and Ricky; and six great-grandchildren; and sister, Hazel Dent of Stafford, VA; and various nieces and nephews from the Fredericksburg, VA area.
He served 24 years in the U.S. Navy as a Pharmacist Mate/Corpsman.
Howard began his service to his country during WWII as a medic with the 3rd Marine Division. He landed on Iwo Jima, Guam and other Pacific Islands, spending his 20th birthday on Iwo Jima.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at NAS Oceana Chapel of the Good Shepherd with Chaplain Oswald officiating. The burial will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Any non-military persons wishing to attend the funeral service need to call to place name on attendee list for base.
