KLEIN, HAROLD T.

Dr. Harold Todd Klein passed away on April 21, 2017. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 22, 1913. He was the son of Samuel and Sayde Levee Klein. He was 103 years old. He leaves his wife, Jeanne Grace Sosnowitz Klein, his son, Robert Klein and daughter, Sue Ellen Raphaelson, his son-in-law, Stephen Raphaelson, his granddaughter, Jennifer Raphaelson and 2 great-grandsons, Julian and Jordy. Dr. Klein started his private practice after serving as a full commander in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps attached to the Marines. He served six and a half years of service. He served with the First Marine [Raider] Battalion and was part of Edson’s Raiders, South Pacific, WWII. He had a private practice in Stamford for 42 years. He delivered a thousand babies and was a family doctor. He also gave the first Salk Polio injections in Stamford at the K.T. Murphy School. He later transitioned to include the field of proctology and was one of the pioneers in cryosurgery and colonoscopy. He performed the first colonoscopy in Stamford as well as the first procedure in New Delhi, India. He also served as vice president of the International Academy of Proctology. Dr. Klein was an avid fisherman and also lectured on fishing in Long Island Sound to stimulate interest in the sport. He wrote articles about fishing and was known as “Doc” and “The Rear Admiral”. He also enjoyed golf and the camaraderie of the Stamford Senior Men’s Club and was a longtime member of the Halloween Yacht Club. The funeral will be held at Temple Beth El on Roxbury Road at 1 p.m. on Sunday April 23 and Interment will follow at Beth El Cemetery, Stamford.
