KENNEDY, WALTER F.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, March 23, at Corpus Christi Church in Chatham Township, for Walter F. Kennedy of Riverside, Conn., father of a Chatham resident, who died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at the Francis E. Parker Memorial Home in Piscataway. He was 82.

Born in Hartford, Conn., Mr. Kennedy moved to Greenwich, Conn., in 1958, and to Riverside eight years ago.

Mr. Kennedy was vice president of sales for the Arrow Shirt Company in New York City for many years before retiring.

A Marine veteran of World War II, he served with Carlson’s Raiders and received the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in the battle for Guadalcanal.

He was a member of the Millbrook Country Club in Greenwich; the Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach, Fla., and the Bonnie Briar Country Club in Larchmont, N.Y.

His wife, Barbara Cochrane Kennedy, died previously.

He is survived by his son, Jay S. of Chatham; his daughter, Jacqueline Kennedy Hammock of Riverside, and three grandchildren.

Interment was private. Arrangements were by the William R. Dangler Funeral Home, 309 Springfield Ave., Summit.
