KENNEDY, JOSEPH H.

Joseph H. Kennedy of Orient died Dec. 5 [1987] at Eastern Long Island Hospital from complications from diabetes. He was 65.

Mr. Kennedy was born in New York City on Jan. 8, 1922. He served with Edson’s Raiders in the U.S. Marines during World War II, seeing action in the Pacific Theater of conflict at Guadalcanal, and the New Georgia and Tulagi landings. He moved to Orient 20 years ago, and worked as a feeder bus driver for the past three years.

He is survived by his wife Frances; two daughters, Suzanne Russo of Lyndenhurst and Cookie Meyer of Orient; a son, Steven J., of Floral Park; and seven grandsons.

Visiting hours were held at the DeFriest Funeral Home, Southold, on Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at St. Agnes Church, Greenport, followed by interment at St. Agnes Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Orient Rescue Squad or the Diabetes Foundation.
