KEISNER, DELMER
Services will be held Monday for Delmer M. Keisner, who died Feb. 3, 1993, in Fortuna at age 66. He was a resident of Fortuna.
A life-long resident of Humboldt County, Delmer was born and raised in Rohnerville. He had lived most of his life in the Rohnerville area.
Delmer had worked in the logging industry for 20 years, later working as a body and fender man and auto painter, and for 12 years drove a laundry truck for Bertain’s Laundry. After his retirement Delmer worked for Caltrans with the AARP Program.
He served his country during World War II, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps and receiving a Purple Heart while serving in Okinawa.
Delmer loved all sports, but his first love was stock car racing. He enjoyed attending the races in Eureka and Redding, and watching them on television. He believed that the youth was the future of our country and actively supported the youth organizations. Delmer served as manager for a Fortuna Joe DiMaggio baseball team from 1973 to 1975. He volunteered his time to take Boy Scouts on hiking activities to qualify them for the hiking badge, and he had a lifetime pass to all Fortuna High sporting events and was presented with a high school sporting jacket.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Keisner of Fortuna; 10 children, Oscar Lilly of Scotia, Robert Lilly of Fortuna, Delmer Keisner Jr. of Akron, Ohio, Floyd Keisner of Akron, Ohio, Edward Keisner of Fortuna, Eunice Wallace of Eureka, Fredrick Keisner of St. Petersburg, Fla., Sandra Keisner of Eureka, Arlys Keisner of Fortuna, and Rhoda Keisner of Fortuna; nine brothers and sisters, Dorothy Brunmeier of Oregon, Judy John of Eureka, Gail Hatfield of Oregon, Glenn Keisner of Fortuna, Hank Keisner of Eureka, Sonny Keisner of Eureka, Ronnie Keisner of Crescent City, Lornie Keisner of Red Bluff, and Patty Handley of Crescent City; 34 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Unis Keisner and George Keisner; his stepmother, Madeline Keisner; and a sister; Georgina Wilson.
Friends are invited to attend services Monday, Feb. 8, 1993, at 10 a.m., at Goble’s Chapel, Fortuna, with the Rev. Darrow Sanderson officiating.
Interment will follow at Ocean View Cemetery, Eureka. Casket bearers will be his sons. Honorary bearers will be Buck Fike, Dennis Fleming, Leon Price, Willard Carlson, Francis Sweet, and Vincent Woodhurst.
Arrangements are under the direction of Goble’s Chapel Fortuna, where friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m.
