IRVINE, JAMES M.

James Melzer “Mel” Irvine was born July 16, 1922, in Abbott, New Mexico, and passed away on August 9, 2004, in San Dimas, California, following a brave struggle with cancer. A proud Marine, Mel served during WWII and had interesting stories of major South Pacific battles in which he participated. He was a sharpshooter and was awarded honors for outstanding service and good conduct. Mel earned the Purple Heart when he was injured in Iwo Jima. After the war, Mel returned home to work for Teledyne Service Company as an accountant, retiring, retiring in 1984 after 34 years of service. While retired, he supported his wife’s volunteer efforts, traveled to Arizona, was a breakfast regular at Danny’s Kosher Pickle, an avid reader and devoted father and grandfather. Mel is predeceased by his loving wife Adeline whom he married in 1957. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Pat Reeff, and grandchildren Nolan and Jacqueline. Services will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2004 at Oakdale Cemetery.
