HUMBERT, JOSEPH C.

Dr. Joseph Cooper Humbert, 81, of Calypso Avenue, Bethlehem, died Sunday [June 23, 1991] in his home. He was the husband of Mary C. (Criswell) Humbert.

Humbert was a general practitioner in Stewartsville, N.J., from 1939 until retiring in 1981.

He received his B.A. from Hobart College, Geneva, N.Y., where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1935.

He interned at Mountainside Hospital, Montclair, N.J., and did his residency at Rochester, N.Y. State Hospital.

Born in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., he was a son of the late Joseph Cooper and Emilie (Herold) Humbert.

Humbert was a past president of the Warren County Medical Society.

He was a volunteer for the Stewartsville Emergency Squad and the Stewartsville Volunteer Fire Company.

During World War II, he was a lieutenant commander in the Navy, serving two tours of duty in the South Pacific. He volunteered with the Marine Raiders and participated in the invasion of Bougainville.

Survivors: Wife; daughters, Emilie Humbert Mules of Baltimore, Md., and Rebecca Humbert Heck of Bethlehem; sister, Margaret Humbert Johnson of Bangor, and four grandchildren.
