HUBLER, LYLE K.

LODA–Lyle K. Hubler, 36, of Paxton was killed about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday [November 6, 1957] in a train-car crash at the Illinois Central Railroad crossing a block south of the depot in Loda.

Witnesses said his car apparently stalled on the tracks and was hit by a freight train. Trainmen said they had blown their whistle and that flasher signals at the crossing were operating, and that Mr. Hubler drove his car past another car already stopped at the crossing. They said he abandoned the car just before the collision but was unable to get out of the way.

Mr. Hubler’s funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Brown Funeral Home in Paxton, with the Rev. R. G. Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Hubler was born Feb. 28, 1921 at Morocco, Ind., a son of William and Minnie Gunter Hubler. He spent his childhood at St. Anne and moved to Onarga in 1936. He married Madeline Crandall Aug. 3, 1939, at Watseka. They moved to Paxton shortly after their marriage.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Leroy Billy, Gayle, and a daughter, Lois, all at home; his mother, Kankakee; nine sisters, Mrs. Mike Thilmony, Loda; Mrs. Ira Haskins, Onarga; Mrs. Willard Haskins, Gilman; Mrs. Ruth Knott, Coal City; Mrs. Agnes Cohen, Chicago; Mrs. Pearl Atwood, Beardstown; Mrs. Mildred Atwood, Roodhouse; Mrs. Florence La Vigne, Long Beach, Calif.; three brothers, Oscar, Danville; Lloyd, Waltham, Mass.; Glen, San Mateo, Calif.

He was an employee of the Central Soya Plant of Gibson City 11 years and was a member of the Marine Raider Association, Chicago; the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
