LAWRENCE, Aug 9—A telegram from the War Department at Washington revealed that Pvt. Fred Hogue, 19, of Lawrence, was killed in action [July 20, 1943] in the South Pacific warfare, was received Friday night by his sister-in law, Mrs. George Hogue, Lawrence.
Fred enlisted in the Marines in June, 1942, a few weeks after he was graduated from Lawrence High School. He received his training in California and went overseas, without having a furlough.
He leaves four brothers: Private George Hogue, Fort Sill, Okla.; Private Howard Hogue, Fort Camp Sherrod, Ga.; Sergeant Roy Hogue, Camp Blanding, Fla.; Plt. Sgt. Leo Hogue, Fleet Post Office, San Francisco; also two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Horton, Gobles, and Miss Alice Graham, who resides with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Graham, Lawrence.
Fred made his home with Mr. and Mrs. George Shurr, Lawrence. The father and mother are not living.
