HICKMAN, LLOYD C.

Lenoir City, Tenn., Aug. 29—A young newspaper publisher apparently gave his life trying to save his sweetheart in a motor boating tragedy that took four lives [August 27, 1949] on nearby Fort Loudoun Lake.

The bodies were recovered a few hours after the accident. The arms of Lloyd Hickman, 26, associate publisher of the Lenoir City News, were tightly locked around Nettie Katheryn Bright, 21, of Loudoun, Tenn.

Hickman was an excellent swimmer. Friends surmised that instead of saving himself he sacrificed his life in an attempt to rescue Miss Bright, whom he had dated for some time.

Funeral services for Miss Bright were set for 10:30 a.m. today at Loudoun and for Milligan, 2:30 p.m. at Lenoir City.

Rites for Miss Brown and Hickman had not been arranged.
