John “Mr. Jack” Heitzer, of Woodbridge, Va., died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Potomac Hospital. Jack was a veteran of World War II. He was one of Edson’s Raiders, wounded at Guadalcanal and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church and volunteered at the Kindergarten of Aquinas School, where he was known as “Mr. Jack” and loved by all the children after the death of his wife, Ruth. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth NoulletHeitzer. He is survived by his two daughters, Kathie Sandow, of Glen Wild, N.Y., and Teresa “Terri” Crowe, of Woodbridge, Va.; his two sons, Dennis, of Ligonier, and Robert, of Camp Hill and Somerset; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Dolores Maletta, of Butler; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., followed by a wake service at 8 p.m. in the Mountcastle Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Road, Woodbridge, VA 22191. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church with burial at Quantico National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Aquinas School, Woodbridge, Va.
