HAYNES, MARVIN R.

Services for Marvin Richard Haynes, 85, of Lakeline Village, will be 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby.

Mr. Haynes passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center Wade Park Division.

Born May 1, 1925, in McKenzie, Tenn., he was raised in Chicago and lived in Lakeline for many years, before retiring to Arizona, where he lived for 20 years. He returned to Northeast Ohio, living in Andover and returned to Lakeline several months ago.

Mr. Haynes was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran, enlisting when he was 17 years old. He saw action in the South Pacific, landing on Guam, Emirau, Okinawa and Japan. He was wounded on Okinawa, received a Purple Heart, and was also part of the occupation troops in Japan as a 60 millimeter mortar man.

He was also a member of Shadrach Bond Lodge F. & A.M. in Chicago, and later transferred his membership to a Cleveland area Lodge. He was a life member and past commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 7 in Cleveland.

Mr. Haynes was a self-employed brick mason by trade.

He is survived by his sons, Ricky (Debbie) Haynes of Lakeline, Jeffrey Haynes and Marvin Haynes II, both of Andover and Eric Haynes of Arizona; daughter, Anita Haynes of Parma; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kandis (Andy), Christine, Cody, Crystal, Nathan, Wesley and Jesse; great-grandchildren, Brendan, Gage, J.T., Isabella, Alex, Anthony and Ryan; and sister, Nell of Chicago.

His parents, Joseph and Isabella Haynes and other siblings preceded him in death.

Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
