HAMMER, EDWARD T.
Hammer, Dr. Edward T., 90, passed away Thursday, October 4 [2012], surrounded by family at his home in San Clemente, joining his beloved wife, Maxine and son Richard. He was born in Leon, Kansas in 1921. He joined the Marines in 1941 and served in WWII as one of Carlson’s Raiders. He was wounded during the battle of Iwo Jima and awarded the Purple Heart. Edward worked his way through USC Dental School graduating in 1955; his first dental practice was in Lone Pine, CA. He moved his family to Santa Ana in 1960 where he practiced until his retirement in 1988. He shared his big heart, great generosity and sense of humor with countless family and friends. He was a skilled carpenter and was always busy with a project. He took great pride in his family, his Catholic faith, his service to his country and his home state of Kansas. He will be loved forever and greatly missed. He is survived by his children, Dan (Linda), Timothy (Mary Pat), Mary Angela Hammer, Thomas (Marie), Tobias (Jeannie), Patrick (Diana), Margie Harmon (Jeff), Maureen Parten (Patrick); sixteen grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. A viewing will be held on October 10th at 10 AM Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 100 Avenida Presidio, San Clemente CA with the Memorial Mass following at 11 AM.
