HALL, JAMES G.

VENICE, Fla./SOUTH BURLINGTON – James Gerard Hall, 73, of Venice, Fla., and South Burlington, died Dec. 16, 1994.

He was born June 2, 1921, in New York City, N.Y., and moved to Venice in 1978, from Burlington. He was an engineer for IBM for 39 years.

He was a member of Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. He was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier High School in New York City, Peekskill Military Academy Pratt Institute.

He was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Marines. He served as a sniper with the First Marine Raider Battalion in the South Pacific during World War II.

He was decorated with three Purple Hearts, the Navy Cross and Silver Star, Victory Medal, American War Theater and Pacific War Theater medals, and a Presidential Unit Citation.

He was a member of the First Marine Raider Association and Guadalcanal Veterans Association, and a life member of the D.A.V.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie (Terry) Hall of Venice; three sons, Donald, James, and Francis of Venice; two daughters, Kathy and her husband Chaz Sternberg, of Shelburne, and Suzanne of Burlington; four grandchildren, Kelly Aiello, Josh Sternberg, Adam Hall, and James Hall; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Madeleine Petronelli of Easton, Conn.

Services were held Dec. 20, 1994, with burial in Florida National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 73 Palm Ave. S., Suite 222, Sarasota, Fla. 34236.
