GUYMON, REX G.
PRICE-Rex Gordon Guymon, age 92, passed away September 22, 2016 in Moab, Utah.
He was born January 25, 1924 in Price, Utah to Orson H. and Crystal Behunin Guymon.
Rex had four sisters and three brothers. At age 17, he hitchhiked to California to join the Marines. He was in the Fox Company, Second Battalion, and the Fourth Regiment in the Pacific Theater. He fought at Vangunu, New Georgia, Okinawa, Emirau and Guam. Rex served honorably as a Marine Raider and was forever proud of that service.
After WWII, he returned to Price and married Shirley Shiner in 1946. That union was blessed with six children, David (Helen) (Marianne), Bruce (Vickie), Richard (Jacque), Max, Kathryn (Lynn Jackson), Eileen (Randy Rose). Rex has 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Max, Kenneth and Henry; sisters, Nina, Florence, Ruth and Edna; his wife, Shirley; sons, Bruce and Max; daughter-in-law, Helen; and son-in-law, Randy.
Rex was a rancher, house painter, paper hanger, farmer and coal miner. He grew a wonderful garden which he shared with family and friends. Rex loved to hunt rocks and dig bottles with his buddies, Wayne and Edith and Shirley. He liked to hunt, ride horses and work rocks. If you stopped at his home, you went on a rock tour and learned about the Marines. He thought cows were beautiful and watched for deer or elk trailing everywhere he went. He never ate a melon that wasn’t the best one of his life. He loved Carbon County and thought he had the most wonderful parents in the world. He loved going to “Raider Reunions” and visiting with all his buddies. Rex was a proud lifelong member of the V.F.W, Price American Legion and the Marine Raiders. A short funeral service will be Tuesday, September 27, 2016, starting promptly at 11:30 at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) followed by military honors at the Price City Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Mitchell’s Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are always welcome daily.
