GRAVES, JOHN C. F.

A 49-year-old Redlands man died yesterday [November 7, 1966] from head injuries sustained Friday night in a fight in a Tri-City area bar west of Redlands, sheriff’s detectives reported.

The victim was identified as John C. Graves, of 308 Mulvihill, who died at St. Bernardine’s Hospital at 7:50 a.m. yesterday following surgery.

Lt. William Paterson of sheriff’s homicide detail said Walter William Pritchard, 41, of 652 G Street, Colton, was taken into custody at 1:30 a.m. today in connection with Graves’ death.

Pritchard was booked in County Jail for investigation.

According to Lt. Paterson, Graves sustained head injuries Friday night in an alleged fight in a bar, but did not report the incident nor seek medical treatment until Sunday afternoon when he appeared at Redlands Community Hospital.

After being examined there, he was taken to St. Bernardine’s Hospital where he underwent surgery.

Funeral services are pending at Emmerson’s Mortuary in Redlands.

Graves, a native of Indiana, resided in Redlands for the past 11 years.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary R. Graves of Redlands; his mother, Mrs. Hazel Graves of San Bernardino; a son, Kenneth Biggs of Redlands, and a daughter, Miss Barbara Graves of Sacramento.
