Reburial services for Cpl. Robert Earl Grant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew H. Grant, Route 1, Fort Atkinson, former Janesville residents, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Reining Funeral Home here. The Rev. Alban G. Tippins, pastor of St. John’s Community Church, Oakland, will officiate and burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening. The V.F.W. firing squad will conduct military rites at the grave.

Holder of the Purple Heart, Cpl. Grant was 20 years old at the time of his death. He was killed in action on Okinawa June 4, 1945, while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.

Robert Earl Grant was born in Fort Atkinson June 1, 1925. He was graduated in absentia from the Janesville High School in June, 1943, having enlisted in the Marines Jan. 6 that year. He trained at San Diego and Camp Elliott, Calif., before being sent overseas.

Cpl. Grant had been in the Pacific Theater of war for two years before his last assignment on Okinawa, having seen action at Bougainville with the Second Marine Raiders; at Guam, as a rifleman with the Fourth Regiment of the First Provisional Marine Brigade; and at Okinawa as a member of the Sixth Division.

He served in the Bougainville campaign from D-day, Nov. 1, 1943, until early in 1944 when he was hospitalized for treatment of wounds received in battle. He participated in three phases of the battle for Guam–Mount Alifan, Orote Peninsula and Agan.

Survivors are his parents; a sister, Mrs. William Koebler. Cincinnati, O.; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Trimble, Whitewater; and several aunts and uncles.
