ARLINGTON, Va. (UPI) — Tucker Gougelmann, reportedly an ex-CIA agent who returned to Saigon to bring four adopted children out before Vietnam fell to the communists, was buried Friday in Arlington National Cemetery.

Gougelmann missed the evacuation of U.S. citizens and, according to the Vietnamese, died in a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) on June 23 1976, at the age of 59. The Army medical examiners only would say “cause and date of death unknown.”

His body was returned to the United States along with 20 other servicemen.

Gougelmann was buried in Arlington because he was a Marine Corps major in World War II. The CIA would not say whether he was one of their agents, but sources reported he was a CIA employee.

The Chicago Daily News quoted his friends as saying he was not working for the CIA when he returned to Saigon three days before it fell on April 30, 1975. The paper said he went back to bring out four adopted Vietnamese children.
