GORDY, VEARL R.

MATTOON – Vearl R. “Red” Gordy, 63, of Fayetteville, Ark., died at 2 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 1985 in St. Luke’s Hospital at Bethlehem, Pa.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Rev. William A. Burroughs officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Humboldt Township Cemetery.

Mr. Gordy was born July 9, 1922, in Tuscola, son of William J. and Petrodina Stieper Gordy. He married Mary M. Burgess in Miami Beach, Fla., on June 12, 1948. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Rev. Dr. Steve Gordy of Bethlehem, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Kay) Tuschen of Sun Prairie, Wis.; a brother, Clarence W. Gordy of Sadorus; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Gordy was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, Ark., a World War II veteran who served in the Navy, a retired employee of Atlantic Richfield Co. and a volunteer for the Hospital Auxiliary of the Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

He was a board member of N.W. Arkansas VoTech Institute of Springdale, Ark., the Central United Methodist Church and the Arts Live program in the Fayetteville schools.
