GILBERT, FRANK W.
SONOMA – Frank W. “Bill” Gilbert, 73, died Dec. 31 [1990] in Sonoma, where he had lived for 14 years.
A native of Los Angeles, he was a deputy sheriff for the city and county of San Francisco for 30 years. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, was a member of Edson’s Raiders 1st Marine [Raider] Battalion, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He also was a member of the National Rifle Association and SIRS, and for many years served as a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 56.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Gilbert of Sonoma; sons, Bill F. Gilbert of Woodside, Robert Gilbert of Brookdale, and Jeff Gilbert of Sonoma; sister, Anne Biscca of Palo Alto; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A vigil will be held at 8 tonight at Duggan’s Mission Chapel in Sonoma. Funeral services will be held at the same location at 9:30 a.m. Friday followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Sonoma. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Sonoma.
