GIBAT, ALBERT G.
Albert Gustaf Gibat, 86, formerly of Norman, died Aug. 13 [2006] at the Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio. His ashes will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Mr. Gibat was born Dec. 2, 1919, in Fostoria, Ohio. After attending college in 1940, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving in the South Pacific and Korea. He retired with honors as a master sergeant after 22 years of distinguished service. In 1969, Mr. Gibat married Joy MacInnis and adopted her three daughters. A daughter was born in 1972. A great storyteller and writer, family said, he was actively involved in real estate. He lived in Norman until 1998 when he returned to Fostoria. Survivors include his brother Norman Gibat; children David Gibat, Sherry Weaver, Camille Guigliano, Cindy Fisher, Diana Petrilla, Megan Gibat Stephens, Mary Ann Grossman; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Library for the Blind or Arbor Foundation.
