GIAMMANCO, SALVATORE

Salvatore Giammanco, 87 passed away on Friday June 22, 2012 at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach, FL.

Born in Paceco, Italy, he has been a resident of Vero Beach for 22 years, coming from Clark, NJ.

Sal served in the U.S. Marines during WWII. April 1st marked the 67th anniversary of Sal being shot through the chest at the Battle of Okinawa. He was the first Marine wounded and received the Purple Heart Medal.

Prior to retirement Sal was a radio engineer for several radio stations in NY. He was a HAM Radio operator and held numerous FCC licenses. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach. Sal was a member of DAV, the Marine Corps league of Vero Beach and member of the Order of the Purple Heart. Salvatore enjoyed the ocean, gardening and surf fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Josephine Giammanco of Vero Beach, FL; daughter, Margaret Keene, of Snohomish, WA; son Michael Giammanco, of Skillman, NJ; brother, John Giammanco, of Long Island, NY and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 30, 2012 at 3:00pm at Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce, and FL, with inurnment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce, FL.
