GEIGER, PERSHING
Casper, Wyoming – Pershing Geiger, 75, of Casper, died Feb. 10, 1996 at his home. He was born June 12, 1920 in Yell County, Ark., the son of James Abraham and Mary Emma (Florence) Geiger.
He was raised and educated in Prairie Grove. He served as a Marine Raider in the South Pacific during World War II.
He married Louis Wilson Nov. 11, 1948 in Casper, Wyo. He was a craftsman of fine furniture and cabinets at Millwork Inc. until 1972. He then became a full-time sculptor, sculpting historical figures out of wood and bronze. Among his work include: “Lt. Caspar Collins” at the Casper Events Center; “The Homesteader” at the Homesteader Plaza; and the “Governor Ed Herschler” in Cheyenne. His largest woodcarving, “The Country Doctor” stands at the Wyoming Medical Center. Smaller carvings are in private collections across the nation and in several foreign countries.
Survivors include his wife of the home; daughters, Connie G. Norwood of Cheyenne and Cheryl G. Gillum of Casper; sisters, Mrs. Owen Delap and Rachel Maxey, both of Prairie Grove; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Feb. 14, 1996 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church by Father Royce Brown. Burial was at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Bustard’s Funeral Directors, Casper.
