FREDERICKSON, ELMER A.
A memorial service for Elmer Anthony “Fred” Frederickson, Jr., will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, May 17, 2007, at the Chico Leland-Stanford Masonic Lodge #111. Fred passed away peacefully at his home in Paradise, Calif., Thursday, May 10, 2007, surrounded by his loving family.
Fred was born to Pearl Arvilla and Elmer Anthony Frederickson, Sr., on Oct. 9, 1923, in Los Angeles, Calif., and was an only child.
Fred attended school in Los Angeles and joined the National Guard as soon as he became eligible. From there, before World War II, at the age of 17 he volunteered for the Marine Corps, serving honorably in the South Pacific Theater in the newly formed Marine Corps Amphibious Corps Raider Battalion. He also served in the Korean Conflict.
During his time in the service, Fred met and married his first wife Majorie Addison. Together they had two children, Freddie and Majorie. After his divorce from his first wife, Fred fell in love with his second wife, Wanda Arlene Godsey. Fred and Wanda had six children, Joseph, Jimmie, Donald, Mary, Robert and John before her death in 1974.
Fred’s 33-year career with Pacific Bell brought him to Chico in 1981 where met and married Leilani LaVonne Tupper. They married in 1983 and spent a wonderful 25 years together. Fred was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of a number of organizations, including the VFW, American Legion, Marine Corps Raider Association, Masons, Shriners, and Black Butte Scottish Rite. Following his retirement he enjoyed many years of golf. He loved outdoor activities and liked to fish, hunt, camp and boat. Fred leaves behind a very large and loving family who will miss him very much.
Private interment will be held at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, Calif.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
