FLANERY, CHARLES W.

Reburial services for First Lt. Charles William Flanery,Jr., were held at 1 p.m. Friday in Restland Memorial Park with the Rev. Harrison Baker officiating.

Flanery volunteered for the United States Marine Corps in 1942 and was killed in action on Okinawa April 30, 1945. He had fought in the battles of Bougainville, Guam, and Emirau before the Okinawa landing.

Born in Alvord, Wise County, he was graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1939 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Flanery worked for three years in the advertising department of the Dallas Times Herald after graduation from SMU.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Purple Heart.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Flanery, and a brother, Jerry T. Flanery, all of Dallas; and a grandfather, W. M. Flanery of Alvord.
