FLAKE, WILLIAM L.

William Lindsey Flake, BGen, USMC (Ret.), 83, a resident of Albuquerque for three years, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2003. He was born on January 20, 1920, in Snowflake, AZ.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Millikan Flake of Albuquerque; two daughters, Linda Ransom and husband, Gerald of Albuquerque and Marcia Uhl and husband, Lee of Blaine, TN; one son, David Flake and wife, Dianna of Summerville, SC; two granddaughters, Lindsey and Tara Ransom; one grandson, William Flake; one brother, Burton Flake of Tempe, AZ; one sister, Melba Pierce of Phoenix, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He graduated from the University of Arizona and George Washington University. BGen Flake served his country in the Marine Corps for 26 years where he was a member of the elite Raider Unit. In combat he earned the Purple Heart, Silver Star and numerous other medals.

He was a volunteer for the Republican Party. Services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2003, at 2:00 p.m at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
