FITZGERALD, WILLIAM H.

LEXINGTON – Mr. William Howard Fitzgerald, 80, of Swicegood Road, died Friday [August 2, 2002] at his home after a serious illness of five months.

He was born March 26, 1922, in Davidson County to John Stamey Fitzgerald and Bessie Lanning Fitzgerald.

He was retired from PPG Industries and a member of Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, was a member of the Edson Raiders during World War II and was a member of the VFW Post 3074.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Francis Fitzgerald; and sisters Hazel F. Owens and Lottie F. Everhart.

Surviving are his wife, Vera Hedrick Fitzgerald of the home; two sons, Barry Fitzgerald and wife Rose of Clemmons and Steve Fitzgerald of Albemarle; a daughter, Marie Thompson and husband Dr. Samuel Thompson of Albemarle; a grandchild, Tori Thompson; and a sister, Kathleen F. Pressley of Tyro.

The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel with the Rev. T.R. Moore officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at Davidson Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Old National Cemetery in Salisbury at 11 a.m. Monday with Military Graveside Rites by VFW Post 3074. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County, P.0.
