FINE, BILLY N.
Billy Newton Fine, 89, of Comanche, TX, passed away at his home surrounded by his sisters May 28, 2013.
Billy was born January 31, 1924, in Wichita Falls, TX, to William L. and Maude N (Garrison) Fine. He graduated from high school in Monument, NM, and joined the United States Marine Corps. He trained with 14th Replacement Battalion and served on New Georgia Island in the South Pacific with 1st Marine Raiders during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He loved working outdoors and worked with his Mom on a family dairy. In 1955, Billy was employed with the United States Postal Service and was appointed Postmaster in Petrolia, TX, by President Eisenhower. Billy retired in 1980 from the Post Office and moved to Comanche, TX. He continued working a ranch here with his sister Marjorie.
Billy is survived by sisters, Kathryn Kerland of Wichita Falls, TX and Marjorie Fine of Comanche, TX.; niece, Rebecca Harris and husband Jackie of San Angelo; grandnieces Jamie Harris-Criswell and husband Jeremiah, Jenny Harris and husband Travis Pittman. He was preceded in death by parents, William and Maude Fine, grandparents Martha and Henry Fine, and Dolphus and Elizabeth Garrison; sister, Gerldine Elizabeth Fine.
Graveside services, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche, will be held at the Garden of Memory in Comanche, TX, at 2:00 p.m. May 31, 2013, with Don Rollins officiating. The family does not plan a visitation but viewing and signing of Billy’s register is available at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to the Comanche County Hospice Care or the charity of choice.
