EVANS, MAX L.

An Oakland member of the Fourth Marine Raiders, Cpl. Max L. Evans, 23, was killed in action July 29 [1944] on Guam, the Navy has notified his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Evans of 2507 Scenic Avenue.

Evans, who enlisted in September, 1942, had been overseas for 13 months.

Formerly he was a member of the soccer and basketball teams of the San Francisco Olympic Club and he played in the Denver basketball tournaments from 1938 through 1941 with the Olympic and Oakland commercial teams.

A graduate of Roosevelt High School, he attended San Francisco Junior College and held membership in the Oakland Order of Demolay.
