ESTEP, RUSSELL E.

Russell E. “Red” Estep, 87, North Manchester, went to be with the Lord at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Lutheran Hospital here.

He was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Blaine, Ky., to Jay and Myrtle (Day) Estep. He married Maxine Kelley on May 31, 1947, and she survives.

Mrs. Estep was a masonry contractor with Bricklayers Local 7 for more than 50 years. He served in the Pacific during World War II with the Marine Corps Raiders and received a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and National Rifle Association.

He also is survived by a daughter, Sheila Karen (Kernie) Rowe, North Manchester; five sisters, Ida (James) McCarty, Albany, Ky., Naomi (Chester) Stevens, Bellville, Ohio, Sue (Andy) Stewart, Marion, Ohio, Audrey Neil, Florida and Dolly (Elwood) Daniels, Ashland, Ky.; his beloved grandson, Kyle Russell Rowe, Mishawaka; a very special niece, Patty Estep, and a lot of loving nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Vermont, Tom and Gene Estep, and a sister, Alma Lee Trent.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, April 1, at the Westwood Church of God, Ashland, Ky., with the Revs. Chris Keeton and Bob Queen officiating.

Burial will be in East Ashland Memorial Gardens, Ashland, Ky.

Friends may call at the church two hours prior to services Saturday.

Memorials are to the Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester, or Westwood Church of God.
