EDER, CARL F., JR.

Columbus, March 23—Funeral services for Corporal Carl Frederick Eder, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl F. Eder of near Columbus, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Columbus funeral home. The Rev. John Howlett of the Columbus Congregational Church will officiate.

Corporal Eder was killed May 20, 1945, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of war, where he was serving with the United States Marine Corps. Military rites will be conducted by Stillwater Post No. 34, American Legion.

Born Oct. 8, 1923, in Columbus, Corporal Eder resided with his parents on East White Beaver with the exception of two years spent in Twin Bridges. He was a graduate of Reed Point High School and enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in September of 1942.

He trained at San Diego and later received a certificate of proficiency in the paratroopers. On March 11, 1943, he was sent to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater where he served until his death. He took part in action against the enemy at Bougainville, Northern Solomons, Emirau Island, Guam and Okinawa.

He was twice wounded on Guam, receiving the Purple Heart with two gold stars, several citations and the Good Conduct Medal. While in action, he was credited with the capture of a Japanese fort and machine-gun nest.

Surviving are his parents; a brother, Wayne, of East White Beaver; a sister, Doris Nyhart, of Twin Bridges, two nieces, two nephews and several aunts and uncles in Indiana.
