DWIGHT, GEORGE E.

George E. Dwight, 83, of Atlantic Highlands, died Sunday, May 1 [2005], at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was a self-employed logger, retiring in 1992 and worked on delivering the Christmas trees to Rockefeller Center in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the V.F.W. post in Port Monmouth, Middletown, and the Marine Corps Raider Association. Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident of Atlantic Highlands.

He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Jane Clarke Dwight, in 2002; his parents, George and Catherine Conover Dwight; and two brothers, Harry and Raymond. Surviving are a son, Gregory Dwight of Atlantic Highlands; a granddaughter, Anne Velleca; and a great-granddaughter, Hailey Velleca.

Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, with funeral services at 8:30 p.m. from Posten’s Funeral Home, 59 E. Lincoln Ave. at Central Avenue, Atlantic Highlands, with the Rev. Martin McGrail Jr. of the New Life Christian Church, Highlands, officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Atlantic Highlands First Aid Squad, Atlantic Highlands.
