DURFEE, CHARLES E.

Charles E. Durfee, 94, recently of Wilbraham died September 5, 2015, in Venice, FL. Charles was the son of James E. and Florence (Frink) Durfee. He was predeceased by his loving wife Beatrice Louise (Barker) Durfee in 2012. He is survived by his daughter Susan Leege and her husband Roger of Venice, FL, and his son James Durfee and his wife Danielle and step-daughter Paige of South Hadley, and his sister Faye Alexander of East Longmeadow. He was predeceased by a brother, Roy Durfee and a sister, Eva Alexander. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Melissa Granfield and Jennifer Weaver, both of Tolland, CT, and five great-grandchildren: Jeffrey Weaver, Chelsea Weaver, Ashley Childers, Amanda Granfield and Alexa Granfield. Charlie was the president of Valley Sales Company until his retirement in 2000. In his youth, he was active in local theater productions and enjoyed playing the piano for friends and family. During the war, he served with the Marine Corps in Guadalcanal. He participated in several local service organizations such as the Elks and the Lions Club and was an active member of the local builders’ association. Charlie had a great sense of humor and was an excellent storyteller, as well as being an avid golfer and tennis player. He will be missed by all those who knew him. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
