DESMARTEAU, EDWARD M.

INDEPENDENCE – Edward Mark Desmarteau, 69, died Saturday [January 27, 1990] in Salem.

He was born in Damar, Kan., and was a Navy veteran who served with the Marines during World War II. He was a member of Carlson’s Raiders. He married Dorothy C. Rock on Feb. 26, 1944, in Chicago.

He came to Oregon from Seattle and lived in Portland and Salem before moving to Independence in 1964. He owned and operated ABC Rental, Valley Rental and Addie Rental companies, all of Salem, until his retirement.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Keizer Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife; sons, John of McMinnville, David of Salem, and Edward Jr. of Independence; and daughters, Dorothy Coughlin of Portland, Barbara Desmarteau of Independence, Kathleen Forster of Salem, Karen Timpani of Issaquah, Wash., and Mary Ann Desmarteau of Bellevue, Wash.

Wake services will begin at 7 p.m. today in the church. Funeral Mass will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the church. Interment will follow in Hilltop Cemetery. Arrangements are by Farnstrom Mortuary.
