DELASH, JOHN N.
John “Nick” DeLash, Rear 316 E. Diamond Ave., died Monday morning [December 28, 1998] at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, where he had been a patient.
Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Daniel and Mary (Gergotz) DeLash, and was a lifetime resident of the area.
He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Church and the church’s Holy Name Society. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Drake-Wear Post 589, and served as post manager.
During World War II he served in the Marine Corps in the First Marine Division of the First Raider Battalion. Mr. Lash received the Purple Heart for the battle on Guadalcanal.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, Nan DeLash, on May 25, 1998, and brothers and sisters, Mary Mistal, Michael DeLash, Daniel DeLash, Carmella Streit, and Ann Marie Rusnock.
Surviving are a son, John DeLash, Hazleton; brothers and sisters, Francis “Fritz” DeLash, Joseph, Florence Grebey, and Rose Marie Kushmeder, all of Hazleton, and Elmer, Jim Thorpe; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home, followed at 10:30 by Mass of Christian Burial in St. Gabriel’s Church.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m.
