DAVIS, SIDNEY H.

Sidney H. Davis, 85, of Crestwood Village II, Whiting, Manchester, died Sunday, April 30 [2006], at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was a pump operator for the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission for 18 years, retiring in 1971. Prior to this, he was employed as a dispatcher with the New Jersey State Police at the Pompton Lakes station for four years. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6765, Wanaque, as well as a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Ocean County. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, earning a Purple Heart Medal. He was a member of the Crestwood Village II bocci, bowling, and shuffleboard leagues. He was an avid New York Yankees fan. Born in Franklin, he lived in Wanaque most of his life before moving to the Crestwood Village II section of Whiting in 1971.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Margaret B. Davis, in 2003; and a daughter, Gail Davis, in 1999. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn T. and Denise Davis of Whiting; a grandson, Scott T. Davis of Baltimore, Md.; a granddaughter, Paula Lorenz of Woodstock, Ga.; and a great-grandson, Jeremy Davis, of Baltimore, Md.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Road, Whiting. A Memorial Mass will be offered at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church at a later date. A private cremation with inurnment of ashes will be at a later date.
