DAVIS, RICHARD E.

Richard E. Davis, 20, West High graduate, who enlisted in the Marines the day after Pearl Harbor and was stationed “somewhere in the Pacific,” is missing in action [August 18, 1942]. Lieutenant General T. Holcomb, commandant of the United States Marines at Washington, sent word here today.

Davis, whose mother died when he was seven, had lived with his aunt, Mrs. Alice V. Morrill, 2928 Dean Boulevard. His father, Curtis J. Davis, lives at 2616 Dupont Avenue S.

He was on the wrestling and hockey teams at West and was a member of Judson Memorial Church.

Historian’s note: Pfc. Davis was subsequently captured by the Japanese, taken to Kwajalein and executed on 16 October 1942.
