DAVIS, HOWARD T.

Howard T. Davis, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away January 15, 1979 in Phoenix.

Mr. Davis, 57, was a native of Goldthwaite, Texas. He moved to Phoenix in 1977 from Alameda, California, following his 1977 retirement as a civilian employee of Alameda Naval Air Station. He had been an airplane mechanic since 1945. He was a member of the Aerospace Union and a Lifetime member of the Naval Employees Association. In May, 1976, he received a congratulatory letter from President Ford for his example set for fellow employees and for his suggested improvements in Government Operation — saving his facility in excess of $8,900.00. He was a veteran of WWII – Marines. He was at Guadalcanal and Tarawa Atoll in Gilbert Islands. He received the Honorable Service Lapel Button and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action during the Gilbert Islands Occupation (he was permanently blinded – for his lifetime – and received a medical discharge).

Funeral services for Mr. Davis were conducted Saturday, Jan. 20, 1979 at 2:00 p.m. in Wilkins Chapel, Goldthwaite, with Rev. Doug Holtzclaw officiating. Interment was in Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his father in 1976.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Davis and a daughter, Thrissia Zentner, both of Phoenix, Arizona; his mother, Ruth Davis of Brownwood; and three brothers, Joe A Davis of Burleson, Louis Kemp Davis of Brownwood, and Wayne Davis of Alameda, Calif.
