DANIELS, TOM R.

Tom Daniels of LaBarge was instantly killed Sunday morning [July 27, 1952] when the pickup truck he was driving at a high rate of speed left the highway just inside the Sublette County line near LaBarge and overturned several times.

Daniels had just left his home in LaBarge, and the accident was witnessed by several people of that locality, who rushed to the scene only to find him dead. The truck was badly demolished.

Thomas Ray Daniels was born in Big Piney, Wyo., February 19, 1919, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Daniels, where he grew to manhood and attended the public schools. His father preceded him in death several years ago.

He was married to Miss Helen Iverson in Rock Springs, Wyo., on September 27, 1941, and to this union was born one daughter, Christina, who survives, with the mother, Mrs. Melvin Comstock of Pinedale, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Evelyn Walker, Florence, Montana; Charles, address unknown; Kenneth Daniels, Casper, Wyo.; Mrs. Louise Marks, Mrs. Alice Scott, Mrs. Charlotte Davis, LaBarge, Wyo.; Mrs. Evoyne Thornton, Salmon, Idaho; Naylon R. Daniels, Korea; Phyllis and William Daniels of Pinedale, Wyo.

Deceased served in the First Marine Corps Division during the Second World War, and at the conclusion of the war was honorably discharged and returned home.

A military funeral was held in the local Episcopal church on Wednesday morning with Rev. Edward Robinson officiating.

Mrs. George Moffat and Mrs. Logan Homer sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Abide With Me.” Mrs. Moffat officiated at the organ also.

Color bearers were Alvin Marks, Orvil David, Carl Kolinski, and Norman Keefer of LaBarge Post 83 of the American Legion.

The firing squad consisted of Arnold Olson, Edward Carr, Lester Olson, Richard Stevens, and Danny Budd of Dee Fox Post 78, American Legion, Big Piney.

Taps was sounded by Mrs. Edward Finnegan, Jr., of the Big Piney Auxiliary.

Pallbearers were: Guy C. Decker, Jr., Robert Pierce, Robert Walker, William A. Hicks, Edward Finnegan, Jr., and George Vickrey.

Interment was in the Big Piney Cemetery.

Relatives present from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Stull, Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Daniels, Blackfoot, Idaho, Foster Daniels, Sugar City, Idaho, Mrs. Carl Riggan, Jackson, and Mrs. Kathleen Bardon, Jackson.
