D’ALESSIO, SIMONE P.

Simone P. “Sam” D’Alessio, 90, of Delray Beach, Fla., died on May 31, 2014.

The funeral is from the Galante Funeral Home, 54 Roseland Ave., Caldwell, N.J., on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Funeral Mass is at Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Church, Roseland, N.J., at 9:45 a.m. Interment is at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Visitation is on Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m.

Sam was born in Orange, N.J., as well as resided there, and then married and moved to Montclair, N.J., retiring to Delray Beach in 1989.

He was a maintenance foreman at the Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove, N.J., for 35 years before retiring in 1986.

Sam served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Raider in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a past commander of the VFW Post 376 in West Orange, N.J.

He was a member of the Loyola Retreat House in Morristown, N.J., with the title of Companion of Saint Ignatius Loyola.

Sam was the husband of the late Louise (nee Manna); father of Peter J. D’Alessio, Patricia A. D’Alessio Olive, Denise Makhlouf, and Simone (Sam) D’Alessio Jr.; brother of Elizabeth “Betty” Pannucci, and grandfather of Jean Paul Jr., Matthew, Sammy III, Andrew, Alex, and Alyse.
