CRONIN, ROBERT J.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 20 for Msgr. Robert J. Cronin, pastor emeritus of St. Mary’s parish, Glens Falls, who died the previous Wednesday [October 17, 1974].

Principal celebrant for the Mass was Bishop Edwin B. Broderick. Other celebrants included Rev. John French, Rev. George St. John, Rev. C. Edward Hickey, Msgr. Howard Manny, Rev. John Keefe, Rev. Gary Mercure, Rev. Leo O’Brian (homilist), and Msgr. Francis Ryan. A delegation of priests attending the Mass was led by Bishop Edward J. Maginn.

A native of Glens Falls, Msgr. Cronin was ordained in 1931, serving subsequently as an assistant at various parishes, including Immaculate Conception, New Lebanon; St. Michael, Troy; Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Albany; St. Peter, Troy; St. James, Albany; and St. Patrick, Cohoes. He was pastor at St. Paul the Apostle, Schenectady, and at St. Mary’s, Glens Falls until his retirement in 1970.

Between 1942 and 1946 Msgr. Cronin served as a chaplain in the Navy. He was one of the few chaplains awarded a Silver Star for gallantry. He was also awarded a Purple Heart and other Ribbons.
