CRAWFORD, JOHN G., JR.
John Grier Crawford, 90, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
He was born, on June 22, 1923, in Cooleemee, N.C., and was a son of the late John G. Crawford Sr. and Lola Carter Crawford.
John was a graduate of High Point College in High Point, N.C. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He moved from Falls Church to Harrisonburg, where he had lived for 27 years. He was a chemist with the Food and Drug Administration before retiring.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Sons of American Revolution, a 32nd-degree Mason, the Shriners and Scottish Rite.
On October 27, 1956, he married the former Mary Lou Mueller, who survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Kathy Cheatham and husband, James, of Fairfax, Cheryl Hutcheson and husband Michael, of Ashburn; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, his twin, Frances Wainio of Marblehead, OH, and Edna Harding of Charlotte, N.C.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sonderegger; two sisters, Mariola Crawford and Amy Myers.
A memorial service was held Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Meredith Chapel at Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Paul O’Gorek officiating.
