COULIS, ANTHONY P.

Anthony P. Coulis, age 66, of Munster, passed away Saturday, November 26, 1988 at his home. Survivors: loving wife, Vivian; one son, Dr. Paul (Ann) Coulis of Huntington, New York; one daughter, Thea Ann (Philip) McFerrin of Naperville, Illinois; three grandchildren; two brothers, Steven P. (Dena) Coulis and Donald P. (Lola) Coulis, both of Munster, Indiana; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 30 at 1 p.m. from St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 7021 Hohman Ave., Hammond, with the Rev. Peter Georgacakes officiating. Interment with full military honors will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond. Friends are invited to call at the Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster on Tuesday, 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Prayer services will be held Tuesday evening, 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Coulis was retired from Pullman-Standard of Chicago as a manufacturing engineer, a graduate of Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois; and attended the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business; served as a member of the board of trustees at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church; was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Hammond Chapter #17; a member of the Orak Shrine, South Bend Consistory; was a life member of the Marine Raider Association; served as a platoon sergeant with the 2nd and 4th Raider Battalions of the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II; he twice received the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat; awarded the Silver Star for valor; and received several campaign medals and unit citations.

Historian’s note: Anthony P. Coulis held the rank of private first class and served in the 4th Raider Battalion. We are unable to confirm that Pfc. Coulis was ever awarded the Silver Star.
